ACCESS for ELLs is an English language proficiency assessment administered to K-12 students who have been identified as English Language Learners (ELL).
Assessments
The Aleutians East Borough School District offers a number of different assessments to help track and monitor student growth. These assessments are given throughout the year and play a significant role in allowing us to offer the best individualized educational opportunities for our students.

Alaska Alternate Assessment - DLM
The Alaska Alternate Assessment tests students with significant cognitive disabilities in grades 3-9 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, and 10 also take the Alaska Science Alternate Assessment.
Alaska Developmental Profile (ADP)
The Alaska Developmental Profile (ADP) is to be completed for each child entering kindergarten, as required by state law as part of the statewide comprehensive system of student assessments. The purpose of the ADP is to identify, record, and summarize the skills and behaviors students demonstrate at the beginning of their kindergarten year, based on teacher observations.
The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) has selected mClass (DIBELS 8th ed.) from Amplify as the statewide literacy screener. The AEBSD will administer mClass to grades K-6. It helps identify students with reading deficiencies, in order to provide support so all students will be able to read at grade level by the end of third grade.
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as "the Nation's Report Card," is the only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. Since 1969, assessments have been conducted periodically in reading, mathematics, science, writing, U.S. History, civics, geography, and the arts. NAEP is administer every two years.
The Aleutians East Borough School District will administer the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) to grades K-11 during the fall and winter for reading, language, and math tests. MAP is a computer-based assessment that creates a personalized exam by adapting to each student's learning level. Assessment data and essential information about what each student knows and is ready to learn is available within 24 hours.
Alaska System of Academic Readiness (AK STAR)
The Alaska Dept. of Education and Early Development (DEED) recently announced a new statewide summative assessment. AK STAR will replace the Performance Evaluation for Alaska's Schools (PEAKS) assessment for the English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. AK STAR will be administered to students in grades 3-9 to assess their understanding of the Alaska ELA and Math Standards adopted in 2012.
Students in grades 5, 8, and 10 will also take the Alaska Science Assessment using the Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) testing platform.
How Does AK STAR Benefit Students?
